Dodge Nitro Taillights

With properly operating taillights, you can drive your Nitro worry-free knowing that other drivers can see you when it matters most. Finding the right stop indicators for your Dodge Nitro is made easy by the profusion of options for every year of manufacture.

What are the taillight types?

Beyond your everyday incandescent bulbs, light-emitting diode (LED) taillights are also an option for your Nitro. Incandescent bulbs are a conventional technology that is still dear to the hearts of many automotive enthusiasts. Consisting of a glass housing and a metallic filament, these lights emit their iconic glow when an electrical current flows through the filament. The bulbs generally last between 1,000 and 2,000 hours. LEDs are a futuristic form of artificial lighting that employs a variety of semiconductor materials to get the job done. LEDs use up a surprisingly small amount of power, and each diode usually measures about 2 millimeters across. LEDs run cool no matter how long they are left on and are rated to last up to 50,000 hours.

How do you install new taillight assemblies?

It’s often necessary to replace the Dodge Nitro tail lights when a lens is cracked or you’re upgrading to LEDs or smoked lenses. The intuitive design of the Nitro makes it easy to replace these crucial parts, and installation only takes about 30 minutes.

  • Make sure the engine is turned off, disconnect the battery, and open the rear hatch.
  • Determine which side to begin with and locate the two plastic caps on the side of the taillight assembly. Use a flat head screwdriver to pry the caps out of the assembly.
  • Pull the assembly away from the vehicle and disconnect the electrical cable. Set the old assembly aside.
  • Attach the power cable to the new assembly and push it into the socket. Insert the plastic caps to secure it in place.
  • Repeat these steps for the other taillight and reconnect the battery. Check your work by starting the engine and turning on the lights.
How do you replace the third brake light?

Also called the center high mount stop light, the proper operation of this vital part is required by law in North America. Replacing this brake indicator is easy and takes about 30 minutes.

  • Stop the engine and disconnect the negative battery wire.
  • Locate the third brake light at the top of the rear window. Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the screws on the right and left side of the high mount stop light assembly.
  • Pull the assembly out of the socket and disconnect the wiring. Throw away the old assembly.
  • Connect the electrical wiring to the new assembly and push it into the socket. Insert the two screws to secure it in place.
  • Reconnect the negative battery wire and step on the brakes to check your work.
