Kingwin Computer Drive Docks

The Kingwin drive dock transfers data from hard disk drives to another machine. The docks can also be used to store data on hard drives for archival purposes.

What is a drive dock used for?

These devices can transfer data between a hard drive from a laptop or desktop to another computer that connects to the dock via USB or eSATA cord. This can be used for recovering data from a computer that has crashed and will no longer boot up. Also, older hard drives can be used for archiving and storing data by transferring from the working machine through the drive dock.

What are the differences between the Kingwin EZ-Docks?

While the EZ-Dock series consists of three different models, they do have many similarities. Each model has the option of connecting via USB or eSATA cord and utilizes a DC/IN power cord. They also have indicator lights that show the progress of the transfer as well as the power status. Some differences between the models are:

  • EZ-Dock: This is the most basic model featuring a single slot, and it utilizes the 2.0 version of USB cord. One-touch backup allows for an automatic backup without having to go through a program.
  • EZ-Dock 2: This model has two slots for drives up to 4TB. It also has a mode-setting switch that allows for different data storage methods.
  • EZ-Dock 3: This plug-and-play version is built especially for certain versions of Windows, Mac, and Linux. This device also has two slots as well as a clone button that allows for automatic duplication, and it has other more advanced settings for partitioning.
What hard drives are the Kingwin docks compatible with?

The docks work with both SATA and SSD styles and have slots that fit smaller 2.5-inch hard drives, usually found in laptops, as well as the larger 3.5-inch type that is often in desktop machines. Whether the dock has one or two slots, each one has the necessary pegs for both sizes.

Do you need to install a driver for Kingwin docks?

These devices are made with plug-and-play technology, meaning no separate driver installation is necessary. After connecting the dock via the USB or eSATA cord, a menu will appear on the monitor to guide the user through the necessary data-transfer steps. This process is similar to using a thumb drive or other type of external storage. These devices are compatible with both Windows and Macintosh operating systems.
