Garmin Fitness Activity Trackers

Garmin Fitness activity trackers are devices that monitor and track fitness-related data while being worn on your wrist. Garmin offers a range of trackers that are tailored towards your personal needs and the activities of your preference. These devices offer a mixture of features which can include the distance you walked or ran, calorie consumption, heart rate, and quality of sleep.

How does the Garmin Vivofit work?

The Vivofit is a lightweight, basic activity tracker. It monitors steps, calories, distance, and sleep. The data is used to gauge your personal fitness level and create appropriate daily goals. The Vivofit 2 includes a stopwatch mode, a backlight, audible alerts, an improved wristband, and the capability to auto-sync with paired mobile devices.

What are the different types of Garmin activity trackers?

The Vivofit 3 has a smaller screen than the previous versions, interchangeable wristbands, and a one-year battery life. Intensity Minutes track the time you spend doing moderate to intense activities and Move IQ automatically identifies certain types of activities.

  • Garmin Vivosmart: This combines some functions of an activity tracker and a smartwatch. It tracks steps, calories, distance, and sleep, along with a swipe OLED touchscreen, smart notifications, and vibration alerts. The Vivosmart HR offer similar tracking and smart features as the previous version, but with an updated screen display. These also include an internal optical heart rate monitor, continuous heart rate recording, and a barometer, which counts stairs and intensity minutes. The HR+ version added a GPS sensor, as well as Move IQ, and additional running data. The Vivosmart 3 has the same features as the others except for the GPS. It also adds more activity tracking options. The V02 Max feature tracks overall fitness over time, which users will see translated into a fitness level. All day stress tracking as well as monitoring of reps and sets in a workout have been added, too.
  • Garmin Vivosport: The Vivosport is lightweight. It includes a GPS, a barometric altimeter, a compass, an accelerometer, and an optical heart rate sensor.
  • Garmin Vivoactive: The Vivoactive is more of a smartwatch than the other Garmin trackers. It includes a GPS and apps for measuring various activities, but requires a separate heart rate monitor. The watch is waterproof up to 50m and has an app specifically designed to monitor swimming. The watch has a battery life of roughly three weeks, but this drops to 10 hours if the GPS is turned on.
  • Garmin Forerunner: This is a series of smartwatches, which are specifically designed to monitor road running. Although the Garmin Forerunner series are designed for running, they are waterproof up to 50m.
