Fuel Injectors for Toyota Cressida

The Toyota Cressida uses fuel injectors to supply gas to the motor. One end of the fuel injector is connected to a hollow rail that runs along the side of the engine, and the other end is inserted into the motor. There is a separate fuel injector for each of the four cylinders in a Toyota Cressida.

How do Toyota fuel injectors work?

Fuel injectors for Toyota Cressida vehicles help to conserve gas and increase the fuel efficiency of Toyota Cressida models made between the years 1976 and 1992. The Toyota fuel injector system works by having the pump in the gas tank send gas to the rail alongside the motor. The gas is sent through the fuel injector where the liquid flow of gas is converted into a spray. The spray is sent into the inlet manifold chamber, where it mixes with air. The mixture is then sent to the combustion chamber, where it is ignited. The resulting mini-explosion forces the pistons in each cylinder to move up and down to power the motor. The fuel injection system is controlled by a computer that monitors and controls the proper mixture of gas and air in the system parts.

How do you test fuel injectors?

Check the fuel injectors to make sure they are operating at full capacity by first checking the resistance of the units. This can be done by using a multimeter that is set to measure resistance in ohms. You can also use an electronic scanning tool to do a diagnostic test and get the repair advice codes for any issues that may arise.

Manually test the fuel injectors. Start the Toyota and disconnect the electrical connections going to the units, one at a time. If the engine starts to idle poorly, it means the unit is good and you can move on to another one. If you pull off a connection and nothing changes in the idling of the engine, you found an injector that needs replacing.

How do you replace a fuel injector?

The fuel injectors on a Toyota Cressida are fairly easy to reach. Turn off the car and disconnect the battery. Also disconnect the electrical connections going to the fuel injectors. You will need Allen and boxed-end wrenches, a ratchet set, and a quick disconnect kit for hoses to remove the units. The injector parts are screwed into the engine. Unscrew the fuel injectors and take them out. Put a new O-ring on the new fuel injector and insert it into the engine and tighten. Make sure you reconnect the electrical connections properly.
