Condensers & Evaporators for Mitsubishi Galant

When youre starting up your Mitsubishi Galant sedan in the summer, having an air conditioner pushing out cool air is key to staying comfortable. If your Galants AC is not working, it could be your condenser or evaporator. You can find replacement condensers and evaporators for Mitsubishi Galant in a wide selection of air conditioning parts.

What do compressors and condensers do?
  • Compressor: This is powered by a drive belt that is connected to the Mitsubishis engine crankshaft. It pumps refrigerant vapor to the condenser.
  • Condenser: In this area of a Mitsubishi car, the high-pressure vapor is converted into a liquid. This results in a lot of heat being given off. Thats why the condenser needs to have air flowing alongside it to absorb that heat.
  • Receiver: The refrigerant then moves to the Galants receiver/dryer. Its a vessel in which any moisture can be removed from the liquid.
  • Expansion valve: In this area of a Mitsubishi Galant AC unit, the liquid is allowed to expand and become vapor once again.
  • Evaporator: As the liquid flows through the fins of the Mitsubishis evaporator, it absorbs heat from the warm air surrounding the car. At the same time, humidity from the air collects on the evaporator and then drips out of a drain tube, so its removed from the Galant.
How do you replace a condenser in a Galant?
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable on the Mitsubishi.
  2. Discharge the system and drain all of the refrigerant.
  3. Gain access to the condenser by removing any internal grilles, supports, or braces inside your Galants hood that may be blocking the way.
  4. Remove the refrigerant lines and cap them off right away to keep anything from entering them.
  5. Take off the mounting bolts holding the unit in place.
How do you replace a Mitsubishi Galants evaporator?
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable on your sedan.
  2. The evaporator will be right behind the dashboard of your Mitsubishi Galant. To access it, you have to take out the vehicles instrument panel, steering wheel column, car glove box, cover bolts, and other parts holding the dash in place.
  3. Flush the coolant to remove any liquid from inside the part.
  4. Remove the line and heater hose connected to the cars evaporator.
  5. You can take out the AC unit once any remaining screws are removed.
  6. Remove the evaporator from its housing.
  7. Replace it with a new part, and repeat all of the steps in reverse order. The coolant can be added once everything is securely connected.
