Complete Inboard Gas Engines

Marine propulsion systems are designed in different styles, and an inboard engine is one of them; an inboard diesel power engine is fitted deep within the hull. This positioning aims at improving stability because this diesel engine is used on larger vessels (over 30 feet). The propeller and stern of an inboard marine engine extend into the water through the stern gland.

Which are the drive types that power an inboard engine?

When buying a diesel motor for your boat, the drive is one of the aspects to factor in because it influences the engine performance. The size of the diesel watercraft and whether it will be used in fresh or salt water will dictate the most appropriate drive type for the vehicle. An inboard engine has two options:

  • D-Drive: With this diesel system, the engine sits in the middle of the craft with the rudder and prop submerged. D-drives don’t provide a lot of wake, which is why they are suitable for ski boats.
  • V-Drive: The marine diesel engine is found under the transom while the prop and rudder are underneath. The wake offered by this type of marine engine makes it suitable for marine sports like surfing, kneeboarding, and skiing. Manufacturers manipulate the wake of V-drives to cater to various activities by creating unique designs and adding ballast and surf systems.
What causes sterndrive paint to peel or blister?

Marine corrosion is a problem that every diesel boat owner has to be ready for. The degree of corrosion, however, will depend on the care and maintenance you give to the vessel. Paint blistering and peeling indicates galvanic corrosion, which usually begins at the sharp edges. Exposed metal surfaces below the waterline are layered with a white powdery substance. Over time, the corrosion will eat away at the exposed metal, which results in pitting. Always inspect the corrosion resistance on your diesel boat after fitting in stainless steel engine accessories.

How do you flush your inboard marine engine?

Flushing is one way to ensure your power engine stays in good condition for a long while. With continued use, a marine diesel engine will accumulate debris that can clog it if not removed. Use a recommended diesel engine cleaner for satisfactory results. To flush a marine diesel engine, connect a hose to the water intake, initiate flow, and turn on the inboard engine. Let it pump until it comes out clear. For a saltwater vessel, check the outflow to ensure that no salt traces remain.
