• Shiny objects and glass: A filter can cut down on the distracting reflections and glare that occur when photographing glass or shiny objects.

Any filter will protect your camera from scratches and damage. A polarizing filter puts a layer between your camera lens and the objects that might harm it.

Follow these steps when using a filter:

• Setting up: Clip the filter to your camera lens, and adjust the filter's front element until you reach your desired color balance.
• Taking photos: Pay attention to the colors as you adjust the filter. Once you have the balance you like, simply shoot your photos like you would without the filter.
• Pay attention to the sun: The filter will work optimally if you keep the sun at a 90-degree angle, not in front of or behind you.

Polarizing filters have the greatest effect on sunny days and in bright areas. They have less of an effect in areas with little light.
